Matty Tidswell
Matty Tidswell is no ordinary 15 year old.
He may seem like any other typical adolescent but looks can be deceiving.
He attends school like every other teenager and they, Sacred Heart College, tell us he is “a quiet young man who goes about his business is an unassuming way.”
He spends his free time with his mates, avoids chores if he can help it and naturally, his favourite thing to do in his downtime, is play Call of Duty on his PlayStation.
You might come to wonder then why Australian Outdoor Living and the 2017 BMX World Championships have something in common.
Well, of course, it’s all due to Matty and his dream of lifting up a World Championship Plate.
Matty Tidswell has quite a long list of achievements to be proud of.
Riding since he was six years old, his first broke out onto the international stage in 2013, representing Australia at the World Championships.
Four years later he was one of three in his age group to break the 40-second barrier in the 2017 BMX National Championships held in Brisbane.
Encouraged by his mother to reach out to Australian Outdoor Living for support, he sent a letter to our Managing Director, Colin Kuchel, asking for support so he and his mother could travel to the 2017 BMX World Championships in Rock Hill, North Carolina.
In his letter to Colin, Matty shared news of his recent win and the predicament he now found himself in – how would he fund his trip?
He explained to Colin that this major achievement prompted him “to take the next step to compete at the 2017 BMX World Championships in Rock Hill South Carolina, USA.”
It didn’t take a lot of convincing for Colin to see how determined Matty was in bringing back a World Championship Plate.
“As an Australian family-owned company which has been around since 2005, our passion for helping families around the country to love their life outdoors remains as strong as ever,” Colin shared with us.
“We cannot wait to see what July brings for Matt and we wish him all the best.”
Supported by a stellar team consisting of Olympian BMX rider Brian Kirkham, State Team Coach Tammy Clarke and Commonwealth Games weightlifter Max Dal Santo, Matty has every chance of coming back to South Australia as a champion.
We wish Matty and his family all the best and will to be watching on from Australia anxiously.
