This may be hard to believe, but we began with just six staff members in a tiny office on Henley Beach Road in Adelaide! We’ve grown a lot since then, but our mission has stayed the same: to help Australians improve their homes and achieve their own unique ‘great Australian dream’.
Universal Blinds Assembly
The first expansion of many, the opening of UBA allowed us to construct our outdoor blinds in our home state of South Australia. We still make our popular blinds in South Australia, providing local manufacturing jobs and a high-quality product.
2008 was the year that a tiny South Australian business officially expanded interstate! We opened the doors of our Western Australia branch with an aim to provide the very same high-quality products and customer service as we had become known for in SA, and we haven’t looked back. Since then, we’ve opened branches all over Australia!
2009 - 2014 - The following six years saw us expand even further and open new branches in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra. Thanks to hard work, innovation, and determination (as well as a memorable, catchy jingle), we managed to become a well-known Australian business around the country by the end of 2014.
50,000 Happy Customers
On the 19th of August 2015, we hit an exciting milestone: 50,000 customers! We were and are so honoured to be able to help Australians turn their homes and backyards into something they can be proud of. Whether you bought a simple, practical set of outdoor blinds, or you went a little further and completely renovated your outdoor space, we were so thankful you trusted us with your project.
Being a family-owned business, we’ve always had a strong sense of community. We were incredibly excited to do our part by donating a swimming pool package to be auctioned off by Variety: The Children’s Charity in 2015. We went on to donate four more swimming pool packages over the next four years to Variety, raising just over $230,000 in total. This money has been put towards a number of separate projects and upgrades, all with an aim to improve a range of public facilities around South Australia and make them more accessible for differently-abled children.
As demand for our products soared in regional NSW, we realised we needed to expand even further. In 2016 we opened another branch in Newcastle, allowing us to complete backyard projects for Aussies living in more regional areas.
100,000 happy customers
On the 26th of November 2019 we officially worked with our 100,000th customer! Words cannot describe how thrilled we have been over the years to be able to help literally hundreds of thousands of Aussies fulfil their outdoor living dreams. We can’t wait to help 100,000 more!
2020 marks 15 years since we first opened our doors in that tiny office in Adelaide. Our initial team of six has grown into a team of over 300 around the country, united in our mission to help as many Aussies as possible build their dream backyard. From the bottom of our heart, thank you Australia. We’re excited to see what the next 15 years will bring!
