Determined to bring his vision of an indoor-outdoor space to life, David reached out to Australian Outdoor Living for a solution that would not only refresh the look of his pergola but also make his outdoor area more usable and comfortable.

The Challenge: David’s main goal was to create an outdoor space that felt like an extension of his home’s interior—a place where he could relax, dine, and entertain comfortably throughout the year. The existing pergola, while structurally sound, lacked modern features and did little to enhance the comfort or usability of the space. Additionally, Adelaide's unpredictable weather meant that the area was often too hot, too cold, or too windy to enjoy fully. David needed a solution that would allow him to control the environment under his pergola, providing shade from the sun, protection from the wind, and a cozy atmosphere during cooler months. The goal was to create a luxurious outdoor setting that fully embraced the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

The Solution: After a detailed consultation, the Australian Outdoor Living team proposed a two-part solution: a Pergola refresh combined with the installation of custom Outdoor Blinds. The Pergola would be updated with a sleek, modern design that complemented David’s home - Including an insulated ceiling with down lights and fan, and beautiful timber accents to add warmth and compliment the facade of the home. A wire rail fence would create a safe edge to the lofty Pergola, without obstructing the beautiful surrounding views. Part two included the installation of Outdoor Blinds, which would provide the flexibility to create an enclosed, weather-protected space at the touch of a button. This combination would allow David to enjoy his outdoor area in comfort, no matter the season.

The Installation Process:

Initial Consultation and Design: The project began with a thorough consultation to understand David’s needs, preferences, and vision for the space. The Australian Outdoor Living team took the time to listen to David’s ideas, offering suggestions and solutions that would best meet his goals. Together, they designed a modern pergola with clean lines and a neutral colour palette that would seamlessly integrate with the existing architecture of David’s home. The team also recommended motorised outdoor blinds that could be easily operated to create a fully enclosed space when needed.
Pergola Refresh: The first step in the installation process was the pergola refresh. The existing structure was carefully assessed to determine it's safety and the best course of action to create the new structure. A sturdy, steel frame was constructed, and enclosed using premium Revolution Roofing panels, before being fully insulated, lined and illuminated with down lights. Timber accents were added along the roof line and uprights, and inner linings were finished with a coat of crisp white paint. Lastly, the entire space was safely enclosed with a modern, almost-invisible wire fence to allow floor to ceiling views.
Outdoor Blinds Installation: With the pergola refreshed, the next step was to install the custom Outdoor Blinds. Designed to fit perfectly within the pergola, SmartTrack Blinds created a seamless enclosure when drawn. Constructed from high-quality, weather-resistant material that provides protection from wind, rain, and harsh sunlight, while still allowing visibility and airflow, The motorized system allows David to easily raise or lower the blinds with the push of a button.
Final Touches and Integration: Once the Blinds were installed, the team added a few finishing touches to ensure everything was perfect. The electrical components for the motorized blinds were discreetly integrated into the existing structure, maintaining the clean, modern look of the new Pergola. The team also ensured that the entire system was easy to use and provided David with a demonstration of how to operate the blinds and adjust the settings to suit different weather conditions. A thorough clean and removal of all rubbish and building debris meant that David was able to enjoy his incredible new outdoor space straight away!
