As automated ‘smart’ blinds have only recently entered the outdoor blind market, we find there are two common questions homeowners ask. What are automated blinds and how much do they cost? This article will give you a deeper understanding of automated outdoor blinds as a whole and the main contributing factors to their cost.
What are automated outdoor blinds?
Smart Home Integration
Installed on to your patio or pergola and connected to your mains power, automated blinds provide the same shade and weather protection as manual and electric outdoor blinds, but with the advantage of smart home integration. This means you have the ability to control your blinds through your Google Home or Alexa and operate remotely from any location via an app installed on your iPhone or android mobile phone. Many clients utilise the app to protect their outdoor area from the incoming rain while they are not at home.
Automated blinds ‘scenes’ or settings
Designed for a homeowner’s convenience, automated blinds feature programmable ‘scenes’. You can configure these and control the positioning of your blinds. For example, your outdoor area may get blinding afternoon sun around 4pm and in this case you could program your outdoor blinds to automatically come down at 4pm.
How much do automated outdoor blinds cost?
There are many factors that contribute to the final cost of automated blinds. This means that it can be difficult to provide a cost over the phone or online. We have compiled the three main factors that will determine the price.
The size of your outdoor blinds and how many you require
It may be obvious, but this is the main deciding factor to costing your blinds. If your outdoor area exceeds the maximum blind width, or your pergola has multiple supporting posts, you will need to consider more than one blind. For a guide on maximum blind sizes, we manufacture blinds up to five metres wide and three metres tall.
Site preparation
Site preparation is also going to contribute to the final cost of your automated blinds. Installers are able to remove old blinds or add support beams to your pergola framework on your behalf. As this means they are onsite for a longer period of time, it will add to the installation cost (this varies depending on each individual job) however you can then enjoy your blind without any hassle or prep work.
Other factors
Generally your fabric choice will not affect the final cost as they are similar in price. This price is standard across both Bella Vista and Bella Opaque materials.
Final cost
Now you are aware of the three main factors that contribute to the final cost of automated blinds: the size of your space, number of blinds you require, and the amount of site preparation needed.
