The 5 Best Outdoor Experiences in WA

The 5 best outdoor experiences in WA

Western Australia has so much more than iron ore.

In fact, for us 2.5 million people living here, spread across the huge land mass, there’s an abundance of outdoor activities at our disposal.

Being an outdoor living company, we’re pretty familiar with the outdoors.

And while we focus our attention mostly on outdoor living around the home, we thought we’d share our favourite outdoor activities in Western Australia.

Our love for Western Australia is also showcased in our free e-book – the Ultimate Guide to Outdoor Living in Western Australia.

We put a lot of effort into producing the guide, which features maps, event calendars and loads of local advice. Make sure you check it out as well.

This annual event is a true food and wine lover’s dream.

Run over three days in November, the Margaret River Gourmet Escape is an extraordinary festival that brings together an unparalleled line up of food and wine celebrities for a culinary delight.

All this is set against the majestic backdrop of the Margaret River and shows off the best that Western Australia has to offer.

From Adriano Zumbo to Marco Pierre White and everything in between, be sure to bring an empty stomach and prepare to be inspired.

If you can’t make the festival, or just prefer to avoid the hordes, there’s always plenty of food and wine adventures to undertake in the Margaret River region.

The area really is spectacular, offering some of Australia’s best beaches, forests and of course wines!

It’s no wonder Delicious magazine voted the Margaret River as the top food and wine destination in Australia!

2. Whale watching in Augusta

Whale watching in Augusta.

Did you know? Western Australia has one of the longest whale watching seasons in the world…about seven months all up!

About as far south-west as you can get, Augusta is home to sandy beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see.

This is where the Indian and Southern oceans converge.

Between June and September you can spot migrating humpback and southern whales as they rest up.

Often in a playful mood, you may be able to spot them from shore but the ideal way to view these magnificent creatures is via a whale watching tour.

3. Camel riding on Cable Beach

Situated a stones-throw from Broome in the north west part of the state, Cable Beach is home to 22kms of pristine white sand and crystal clear oceans.

It’s certainly one of the most captivating sights that Western Australia offers.

What could be better than watching the sun set over this beautiful shoreline?

How about throwing in the novelty of some camels that you can ride at sunset along the pristine beach.

We guarantee you’ll feel in tropical paradise atop one of these awesome beasts.

This is simply a must for anyone visiting the Broome area.

Take your camera and relish this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

4. Ningaloo Reef snorkelling and diving

Ningaloo Reef is a treasure. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site after all and it’s the world’s largest fringing reef, covering 5000 square kilometres.

Coral Bay and Exmouth are great places to start your Ningaloo adventure.

Both offer accommodation and a good vantage point to explore both the reef and inland activities, like the Cape Range National Park.

With such easy access, you’ll be swimming amongst the 500 species of fish, rays, turtles and Western Australia’s beloved whale shark in no time.
