Everyone who owns a backyard is trying to make the most of it in their own way. They might want a lush, green paradise where they can indulge their green thumb; or they might want a space to unwind that’s perfect for entertaining in any weather.

Utilise your side yard
If you’ve got a narrow space down the side of your house, there are a number of ways you can make the most of you backyard.
You could turn it in into an al-fresco spot to enjoy a quiet meal or even add a foliage partition and turn it into a secret garden.
String up some outdoor lights to add a relaxed ambience and sit out there with a cup of tea and a good book. Perfection!
Create an entertainment area
This seems like an obvious suggestion, but there are so many options when it comes to creating an outdoor entertaining space.
We’ll try to keep it as simple as possible. There are two things you need to consider when creating your outdoor area: weather protection and privacy.
The best way to protect yourself and your guests from the weather is by performing a couple of small outdoor home improvements.
Adding a pergola to the rear of your home will allow you to venture outdoors during bad weather. To increase that weather protection and add privacy, consider installing a set of outdoor blinds as well.
Outdoor blinds come in a range of different styles, and you can even choose between manual operation, remote control operation or smartphone and voice control operation.
These upgrades will add an extra room to your home – one that you can enjoy outdoors, in any weather!
Create multiple areas
Dividing your backyard into segments is a great way to make the area seem bigger.
Split your yard into two distinct areas: one for outdoor dining and one for relaxation. Add a fire pit and some seating and you’ll be able to sit out there for a few drinks as often as you want!
You can separate the areas with plants, or you can create multiple levels to maximise the space. We’ve found this is the perfect way to go if your backyard is on a slope.
Include a wide, open space
If you’ve got kids, you’ll know they just love a having somewhere to run around. To do that, they’ll probably need a wide, open space!
Artificial grass is the perfect solution. It’s soft and spongy – so they won’t get hurt if they slip and fall.
Best of all, it’s incredibly low maintenance! You don’t need to water or mow it and it’ll stay green, neat and tidy all year round.
It’s also perfect for backyard cricket, bocce, lawn bowls, chasey, soccer, footy… Well, pretty much any backyard sport you can think of!
Install a swimming pool
We know this one’s a little left-of-field, but we couldn’t resist including it!
Swimming pools are a perfect backyard addition for the entire family. Imagine being able to get a couple of laps in before work in the morning and splash around with the kids in the evening.
