During summer, there’s a chance the artificial lawn may become hot to the touch if exposed to the sun for extended periods of time.

Will my artificial lawn get hot in summer? Artificial Lawn FAQ by Australian Outdoor Living

If your lawn is uncomfortable to touch, we recommend wearing shoes, using a picnic blanket or sitting on a chair outside.

A quick spray of the hose will do wonders as well!

Installation Time for Artificial Lawn is Usually Between 4 to 6 Weeks!

Installation time of artificial lawn can vary depending on a number of factors, but it will usually take between 4 and 6 weeks from the initial consultation for your project to be finished.

Cleaning your Artificial lawn is easy!

Short of cutting down every tree and shrub in your yard, there is no real way to stop debris from appearing on your artificial lawn.

Fortunately, keeping your lawn clean is much easier than maintaining a natural one.

How do I keep bark and leaves off my artificial lawn - Australian Outdoor Living

A plastic rake is perfect for this annoying job, as it is still gentle against the lawn.

Regularly raking your lawn will also redistribute the fibres, ensuring your lawn always appears good as new.

You can also use a garden hose to clear debris.

Parking on Artificial Lawn is not advisable.

Long-term compression will likely result in irreversible damage, so we don’t recommend you park a vehicle on your artificial lawn.

Parking on Artificial Lawn is not advisable -Australian Outdoor Living

Artificial lawn can still provide your backyard with many benefits.

It requires very little maintenance, it keeps your backyard looking neat and tidy and it stays lush and green all year round. It will also save you money on your water bill.

These benefits do make it a superior alternative to natural grass, however there are similarities.

For example, like its natural counterpart, artificial grass will compress under the weight of a vehicle.

Here at Australian Outdoor Living, we pride ourselves on being able to provide the highest quality products on the market.

Is your artificial lawn made in Australia? - Artificial Grass FAQ by Australian Outdoor Living

Occasionally, that does mean looking to overseas suppliers to source some of our products.

We have offered Australian made artificial lawn in the past, however we currently source our product from international suppliers.

Whilst this wasn’t an easy decision to make, we can now offer our customers a superior product for a lower price.

Insects flourish in habitats with natural soil and organic material, as well as stagnant water.

Will my artificial lawn attract insects? Artificial Grass FAQ by Australian Outdoor Living

Since artificial lawn isn’t a natural product, insects find it to be a very unattractive environment.

Artificial grass from Australian Outdoor Living also features excellent drainage, so you won’t have to worry about mosquitoes hanging around pools of stagnant water.

As long as you keep your lawn free of leaves and other organic debris, you won’t be bothered by any critters and creepy crawlies.

There are easy ways to combat weeds!

It is impossible to fully prevent all weeds from growing through your artificial lawn.

Whilst most weeds are removed during the ‘dig out’ portion of the installation, there will always be a stray weed that decides to poke its head through your grass.

How do I prevent weeds from growing through my artificial lawn - Australian Outdoor Living

Luckily there are easy ways to combat those annoying weeds.

We recommend spraying the area with weed killer, available from any local hardware store.

Alternatively, you can simply pull them out when they appear.

We have installed artificial lawn on plenty of council verge and nature strips.

However, we do suggest you reach out to your council and request written approval to do so.

Artificial Grass FAQ - Can I install artificial lawn on the verge outside my house? By Australian Outdoor Living

At the same time, it’s a good idea to ask them whether or not there are any underground pipes or internet cables that you should be aware of.

To ensure the artificial grass installation goes as smoothly as possible, we also recommend you ask about any issues regarding pedestrian safety.

You might be held liable if a careless pedestrian trips because they weren’t watching their step!

Artificial grass is a great option for nature strips.

It adds to your home’s kerb appeal and it looks much tidier than any alternative.

On top of that, you won’t have to watch it grow while you wait for the council to mow it!

There are plenty of ways to minimise the odours coming out of your artificial lawn.

We recommend cleaning up after your dog or cat on a regular basis – using a bucket of water or a garden hose to rinse the lawn is usually your best bet.

Artificial grass installation in the backyard

The main problem with this type of smell is that animal urine generally consists of particles that most cleaning products won’t be able to breakdown. Unfortunately, it’s these particles that release the unpleasant odours.

First off, it’s important that any option you go with doesn’t contain harsh or hazardous ingredients. Not only can these damage your artificial lawn, but they can also transfer onto your pet’s paws and cause irritation. Luckily, there are several tried and tested methods of getting unpleasant smells out of artificial lawn.

If you’re working with a fairly localised area, baking soda might be your best option. Spread the powder evenly across the surface with a fertiliser spreader. If possible, try and ensure you do it over a period where there is no rain forecast for the following day. The baking soda should absorb the odour over a short period of time. When it does finally rain, the powder will convert to carbon dioxide (CO2) and the smell will be gone.

You can also purchase cleaning agents such as Zeolite or Trigene. These not only absorb the smell, but also encourage micro-organism activity that eventually breaks down the crystals. Depending on how picky your pets are when picking their spots, either of these chemicals can be good long-term solutions.

Finally, you can try using a mixture of water and vinegar. Mix up some water and cheap white vinegar at a ratio of 1:1 in a garden pressure sprayer. Don’t panic if you don’t own one of these – you can pick them up any local hardware store for between $5 and $10.

With regular upkeep and application you should begin to see results soon, but unfortunately there is no 100% guarantee that any of these solutions will work.

If you are still having difficulties, or would like to talk about this over the phone with your local branch, please call us on 1300 884 690.

Australian Custom Made Roller Shutters - Free Measure and Quote in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth & Australia Wide - Australian Outdoor Living

Here at Australian Outdoor Living, we take pride in the quality of our products.

That’s why we’ve gone the extra mile and made sure our roller shutters are the thickest on the market in Australia.

Our roller shutters are 8mm thick, meaning they’ll successfully insulate your home against the weather outside, as well as keep out light, noise and intruders.

You’ll sleep soundly knowing your roller shutters are from Australian Outdoor Living.

Our roller shutters are the CSIRO’s preferred option for effectively covering windows in bushfire prone areas.

It’s important to mention that roller shutters are not fireproof.

They will not prevent your home from being damaged in a bushfire, and they should never be used as the last line of defence in a bushfire action plan.

Roller Shutters - Are they fire proof? - Australian Outdoor Living

They will offer your home a level of protection that uncovered windows will not.

Roller Shutters can help but being prepared is more important.

Roller shutters will protect your home in the event of an ember attack, and they will help you to regulate the temperature inside your house in the event of a bushfire.

We cannot recommend highly enough the importance of being prepared.

Practice your action plan on a regular basis, and sit down with your family and make sure each member is aware of their role.

Roller Shutters Act as an Deterrent to Potential Burglars!

We can’t guarantee that our roller shutters will completely stop a thief gaining access to your home, but they do act as a deterrent to potential burglars.

Do your roller shutters stop burglars - Australian Outdoor Living

Would-be thieves will see your shutters and immediately being to have second thoughts about breaking into your home.

They’ll consider the time it will take to gain access and the amount of noise they might make in doing so.

Because of this, they’ll likely move on to an easier target.

Despite this, you should not use your roller shutters as the sole security measure in your home.

The best defense against intruders is a combination of security measures.

Roller Shutters need regular cleaning and maintenance!

Like everything, roller shutters need regular cleaning and maintenance if you want them to stay in perfect working order.

Luckily, cleaning them is almost as easy as using them!

How do I clean my roller shutters - Australian Outdoor Living

All it takes to clean your roller shutters is some warm soapy water and a cloth.

Simply wipe away the dust and dirt, paying close attention to the areas between the slats.

Avoid using a side-to-side motion, as it could dislodge the slats from their tracks.

For more tips on how to look after your shutters, take a look at our blog.

According to Energy Australia, roller shutters can potentially save you up to $850 a year on gas and electricity.

How much money can roller shutters save me on gas and electricity? - Roller Shutters FAQ

This figure will change depending on the household, as there are a number of factors that can determine your energy usage.

Quality of household appliances, number of residents and willingness to take energy saving measures will all contribute to the cost of your utilities bill.

If you don’t have a post on which to secure your outdoor blinds, we can easily install an anchor point in the ground.

We would also attach a clip to the bottom of the blind, which would then clip onto this anchor.

The clip lifts as you wind the blind tighter, meaning you can still maintain a taut blind.

The anchor will also lie flat when not in use, eliminating the possibility of any nasty trips!

What is the largest size blind I can order? - Outdoor Blinds FAQ by Australian Outdoor Living

Since our outdoor blinds are custom-designed to suit your outdoor space, we can usually make them any size, within reason.

As a general rule, the largest size we can manufacture under warranty is five metres wide with a three metre drop.

Upon inspecting your area, our design consultants will be able to let you know if a larger size is possible.

We don’t include wind damage in our warranties.

Our outdoor blinds are designed to withstand reasonably high winds, but any damage resulting from the blinds being left down during periods of high winds is the responsibility of the user, and not Australian Outdoor Living.

We recommend you keep your blinds wound up if there is any chance you might experience high wind in your area.

Outdoor Blinds are Weather Resistant.

Outdoor blinds are usually not 100 per cent water proof.

However depending on the material and the quality and weave of the fabric, outdoor blinds can be quite water-resistant.

Outdoor Blinds - Are they weather proof? - Australian Outdoor Living

For external weather protection, one does not usually require outdoor blinds to be totally water resistant.

Most blinds will stop a large majority of rain in its tracks, ensuring you won’t have to worry about the wet weather spoiling your plans.

Which Outdoor Blinds Are More Water Resistant?

Our clear and tinted Bella Crystal and Bella Bronze material options are less waterproof than our Bella Vista and Bella Opaque shade material, simply because they must be installed with the Classic operation system.

The Motion and Neo operation systems – available with our range of shade blinds – utilise guided tracks to hold the blind in position.

This means there will be less gaps, and less chance of rain coming in.

We manufacture all of our outdoor blinds in SA.

Our sister company, Universal Blind Assembly (UBA), manufactures all of our outdoor blinds in their factory in Regency Park.

Quick tips for cleaning Plastic Outdoor Blinds?

How do you clean Plastic Outdoor Blinds? FAQ by Australian Outdoor Living
How do you clean Plastic Outdoor Blinds FAQ

Taking steps to clean and maintain your Plastic Outdoor Blinds will help you prolong the life of your outdoor blinds, save money in the long run and keep them looking their best.

For cafe style plastic blinds the first tip is to regularly wash them with a sponge or a chamois with warm soapy water. Allowing a buildup of dust and dirt on your plastic blinds can cause them to become scratched during the rolling up process.

Avoid using anything abrasive to wipe your outdoor blinds as this could also result in scratching. On top of this ensure that your Plastic Outdoor Blinds are free of creases during the rolling up process. The best time to do this is when the blinds are warm.

Like all plastic, café style blinds are affected by changes in temperature. They can potentially expand and contract according to the heat of the day and can become stiff if exposed to cooler temperatures. If this occurs it’s important to be careful when operating your blinds, don’t try and force the mechanism to work – be gentle.

To answer this question… the best way to clean Plastic Outdoor Blinds is using a sponge or chamois and warm soapy water.

Cleaning you Outdoor Blinds regularly will avoid the build up of dust or dirt.

Like humans, Artificial grass also comes with many benefits for our dogs. Some people are generally worried about how their dog will react to the new lawn surface but after a small transitioning period, it seems like they can’t even tell the difference.

Here are just a number of benefits that good quality Artificial Lawns have for your dog. Artificial Grass is soft and plush meaning your dogs can roll and lounge around on it without getting scratched or scorched like they would on hard surfaces like concrete. Synthetic Grass can also be deterrent to ticks and fleas.

These bugs simply aren’t attracted to Synthetic Grass like they are natural grass therefore giving you and your dog one less thing to worry about. Artificial Grass also doesn’t contain any spikes or prickles making it more comfortable for your dog to play around on. Quality Artificial grass is specially designed to drain liquid through it.

This is especially good for pet urine and heavy rains stopping your dog getting mud all over their paws then walking through places where you don’t want mud.

The drainage qualities of Synthetic Grass also means that when your dog goes to the toilet on the grass you can easily pick it up and hose off your lawn allowing the water to then drain away…

To answer the question… yes dogs do like artificial grass.

Do I need underlay for Artificial Grass?

Artificial grass installation in the backyard
You should never lay artificial grass directly on top of existing grass or soil. Artificial Grass should always be laid on top of a sub base that can consist of either soil or a type of sand. This will ensure best results when installing your new artificial lawn.

At Australian Outdoor Living all our artificial lawns are installed on top of a layer of dolomite. Dolomite is a substance that we use to ensure that your lawn stays flatter for longer. We use dolomite due to its durability – if we were to use dirt or regular sand your lawn would develop lumps after a couple of years.

The base of dolomite is a standard thickness of 50mm but customers do have the option to request a thicker layer.

To answer this question… Artificial Grass does not need an underlay, however it is recommended that it is laid on top of a sub base that generally consists of a soil or type of sand. This will ensure that your Artificial Turf doesn’t develop bumps over time. Proceed to pull them out like you normally would, or even spray them with weed killer. In this instance the use of a mild weed killer is ok.

Make sure you take extra care in ensuring that the mix is not too potent as this can damage the lawn fibers over time.

We recommend using warm soapy water and a microfibre cloth. Washing up liquid will remove grease and dirt built up. We don’t recommend cleaning your kitchen with bleach, harsh chemicals or abrasives.

As you heat up the mild steel hotplate it will change colour, darkening directly over the burners first as this is where it gets the hottest. This colouring process will eventually spread over most of your hotplate.

The fat trap is found under the hotplate at the front of the cooktop. You will notice a hole in the plate at the front; use your lifting hook, lift the plate up from this hole and then simply slide the container out from its brace.

Wipe over the hotplate with a clean damp cloth once the heat has subsided. If there is any excess build-up of fat and grease, this can simply be scraped into the fat catcher for easy disposal. Alternatively, you can remove the hotplate entirely from the brace and pressure wash it.

We recommend using warm, soapy water and a microfibre cloth. Washing up liquid will remove grease and dirt build up.

We recommend protecting the surface of your benchtop from intense heat.

Before using your hotplate, ensure you wash it with hot soapy water to remove the protective layer of lanolin oil. You will know the oil has been removed once the water runs clear. Once this is done you can season your hotplate ready for its first use.

The Mild Steel Hotplate quickly and evenly distributes heat, and is highly reactive to changes in temperature, providing the user with more control over their cooking. The even heat distribution means the entire cooking surface can be utilised, providing consistent results during every cook.

Clean up after cooking is simple thanks to the Hotplate, allowing the user to easily scrape any remaining fat and grease into the fat trap for disposal. For a deep clean, the hotplate can easily be removed entirely from the brace and replaced once cleaning is completed.

When compared to the heating inefficiency and cleaning difficulty of grill plates, the mild steel hotplate stands out as the ideal choice.
