Are you thinking about installing a timber deck? Find out what factors can influence the price of a quality timber deck from Australian Outdoor Living.
At Australian Outdoor Living, no two projects we do are the same!
We design every project based on the customer’s individual needs, lifestyle and budget. We do this to ensure that you get a product that is completely unique to you and your home.
That’s no different when it comes to our range of quality timber decks.
Unfortunately without seeing your outdoor space we cannot give you a price, that’s why we encourage our customers to first get in contact with us by either calling or clicking on the free measure and quote link.
We’ll organise a time that suits you to come visit your house to have an in-house consultation where we’ll discuss with you exactly what you’re after. We’ll then measure the area where you would like your new timber deck to be.
After, we will prepare an accurate quote based on your personal preferences.
Due to this personalised service, we are unable to provide an accurate quote without first sitting down with you and discussing exactly what you want. We also do this to ensure complete honesty and transparency throughout the entire process. It’s all part of the service!
Let’s talk about some of the factors that may determine how much your timber deck will cost.
Size of your timber deck
Like any project that you undertake, the size of your timber deck can have an effect on how much your timber deck will cost.
The majority of the time a bigger deck will cost more than a smaller deck. This comes down to more timber being needed and the deck taking longer to install, as well as the process being more labour-intensive.
Another factor may also be the height of the deck. Some decks may only be a short distance off the ground whereas others may be the height of a balcony.
Type of timber
The type of timber you use for your timber deck can also effect how much your timber deck will cost.
Here at Australian Outdoor Living we offer six different types of timber: Merbau, kapur, forest red, spotted gum, ACQ clear pine and composite (Modwood).
We source all our timber from managed forests, and we grow our pine in plantations.
Merbau decking is one of our most popular options here at Australian Outdoor Living.
It’s strong and durable which makes it perfect for areas that may face extreme weather.
Merbau wood is also resistant to saltwater, making it a great option if you live in close proximity to the beach.
Its durability can be attributed to the naturally occurring oils in the wood which allow it to endure harsh temperatures and climates.
A properly looked after Merbau timber deck can last up to 40 years, and best of all it requires little to no maintenance!
Kapur is an imported timber with a reputation for durability. Due to this, it is generally used in construction.
It’s a great option for timber decking as it is resistant to both rain and sun and doesn’t rot or decay.
Unfortunately, Kapur isn’t resistant to termites so you have to ensure that you stay on top of them.
Forest red is another durable wood that is suited to a range of uses.
It’s a versatile, dense and durable hardwood with a light to dark red heartwood.
Forest red displays a tight interlocking grain alongside its lush red colour, making it an excellent choice for when durability and appearance are important.
Spotted gum is a premium native Australian hardwood that is used widely in structural, exterior and internal applications.
It has a striking appearance and high levels of natural durability and strength, which make it quite resistant to insects such as termites and marine borers.
Spotted gum timbers are valued for their attractive markings and vibrant colour palette.
ACQ clear pine
Clear pine is one of the most commonly used and versatile timbers in the world, making it a great option for timber decking.
The treatment process increases the natural durability of the wood, even to the point that it resists decay and insect attacks.
It’s softer than most other woods, making it pleasant to walk on. This is especially good if you have kids or pets.
Clear pine also has a light base colour, making it easy to stain a range of colours to compliment the style of your home.
Modwood is an environmentally friendly decking alternative made out of a unique wood and plastic composite.
It’s versatile, easy to maintain and comes in a range of colours so it will look great in any setting.
Modwood is both durable and resistant to Aussie conditions. Better yet, it’s free of splinters, so it’s perfect for young families.
At Australian Outdoor Living we offer Modwood in the following styles:
- Black bean
- Silver gum
